![]() Black Flamingo starts with Michael’s narrative from such a young age and we learn that his Father doesn’t really have a care for him which is sad in itself. ![]() My heart absolutely ached for Michael at several points throughout this book. It’s wonderfully evocative too and I felt like I was right there with our main character Michael as he tries to find where he belongs throughout his life as a gay young man of mixed race in Britain. Told in verse, it’s a quest for identity, self realisation, being proud of who you are and finding yourself. Sometimes, we need to take charge, to stand up wearing pink feathers – to show ourselves to the world in bold colour.īlack Flamingo is honestly such a raw, emotive and powerful read.
